Thank you for inviting me into your class room. What a great time, it was nice to meet everyone and share stories with you all. I am thinking, It seems to me that when I do this sort of thing with small groups of people that may or may not who my father was, that I need to figure out a way to make the whole experience more of an interactive affair. What do you think? Do any of you have any suggestions? Normally I sit on a stage with an audience that generally knew my father and do what I do. The class room environment is a whole new ball game that I'm eager to refine. So please feel free to post your thoughts and suggestions.

I wouldn't worry too much about making it more interactive for groups just learning who Utah Phillips is: I know I at least was interested and listening, but I'm a lot less likely to vocally participate on a topic that's completely new to me.
ReplyDeleteGood to know, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI thought you did a great job for an introduction to a month long journey about your father! I loved the personal pictures and the stories you shared. Since I don't know much about him, you did a wonderful job in putting a face and personality to him that would be very different from people who have just heard stories or met him a couple of times. I thought your personal accounts were great for a classroom setting. I wish you would have played a couple more songs though : )
ReplyDeleteOur pleasure, Duncan - class likely wouldn't exist without you, and we hope you'll be in (and play) many more times.
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to play a few more songs and tell some more stories. For me it was a little difficult to figure out the flow of the discussion, and where to jump in.
ReplyDeleteI'm used to sitting on stage and going with the flow of the show that I have prepared. I will try to make it back in to class one more time.
