I was turned on to Utah Phillips by friend Sage a couple of years ago. I didn't know anything about him, but I was a victim of his stories and rapturous simple plucking lines. I have always loved folk music, but until this class didn't really realize that it had purpose; to convey a message to the masses. I always thought it was just an indulgence of simplicity, something to transport you to a time, a place and a company unattached to civilization. To an extent I still believe thats true, but I missed how important accessibility was to folk music. Most folk tunes are just 2 or 3 chords, and even then none of them really require instrumentals. Here is one I tried out. C, F, G7 Los todos.
